So many in our community are struggling right now as a result of the coronavirus spread.
The days, weeks and months ahead will be difficult but I continue to draw inspiration from the members of our community who are doing all they can to treat the sick, care for the elderly and ensure access to food during this time.
I worked to support the passage of up to $1 billion dollars in new spending to address this crisis and am continuing to work with the Governor's office on how we can continue to support people in our communities who are struggling right now.
Here are ways to help others in need and stay safe.
We are experiencing a national, severe blood shortage. You are able to donate blood while shelter in place restrictions are ongoing and adults in good health are encouraged to do so. Find a local blood drive by visiting the Red Cross website. https://www.redcrossblood.org/
FOOD FOR THOSE IN NEED
Some in our community are struggling with access to food right now, many for the first time. If you are struggling with food insecurity, I encourage you to learn more and consider applying for CalFresh benefits. https://www.getcalfresh.org/
Seniors in need may also be eligible for Meals on Wheels. https://www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/
Feeding America's website can help you identify food drives in your area where you can donate nonperishable items for those in need. https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank
